The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating SystemTM is a third-party certification process and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
LEED provides a roadmap for measuring and documenting success for every building type and phase of a building lifecycle. Specific LEED programs include:
Building projects can achieve LEED Certification by meeting certain prerequisites and performance benchmarks ("credits") within the categories of site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve.
The number of LEED Certified Projects in the state of Wyoming continues to grow as the information is passed and the benefits become ever more apparent and easier to achieve.
LEED Accredited Professionals are distinguished building professionals with the proven knowledge and skills to successfully steward the integrated design and LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources, and processes by successfully completing the rigorous accreditation process. Visit www.gbci.org to learn more about the LEED Professional Accreditation exam process near you.
The LEED program also includes a full suite of training workshops (www.usgbc.org/education) to develop and encourage green building expertise across the entire building industry.
USGBC-WY educates and provides information on the LEED certification and professional accreditation programs. We do not establish or enforce standards or professional accreditations.
